Action with the British Medical Association:
Defending Dr Swee Ang

Dr. Ang Swee Chai is an orthopedic surgeon and a legendary supporter of Palestinian rights to healthcare. Her baptism of fire was to attend to victims of the Sabra and Shatila massacres of 1982, in Lebanon. CAMPAIN joined her in protesting against the British Medical Association's (BMA) decision to disinvite her from speaking to students at an event on 4th April 2025,

Swee Ang gave a speech to supporters outside the BMA's offices in London on the day of the event - see items 1 and 2 below. In August 2025, we delivered the BMA an Open Letter signed by approximately 3,600 people including many health workers, asking it to lift decision to disinvite Dr. Swee  - see item 3 - and discussed it at length with BMA staff.

Most recently, one of our members wrote an article exposing how Swee Ang had been maliciously misrepresented by the Israel lobby and in a letter in The Telegraph, as well as the moral action that such actions can engender - see item 4 below. We hope this will draw a line under this case and result in the BMA lifting any decisions to disinvite Swee Ang from speaking at its events.
